High quality event
The
event for open source for geospatial IT.
Held in Vancouver, BC this year, September 24-27, it attracted approximately 700 attendees.
The event showcases how open source software can make people more efficient, also while working
with their commercial software.
All presentation abstracts with supporting files (presentation materials, PDF, PPT) can be found here.
Peter Batty, former CTO for two leading companies in the industry, Intergraph and Smallworld, mentions
in his blog:
„The quality of the sessions I went to was consistently high, and there was a
real energy and buzz around the whole event (much more than
at most of the more established geospatial conferences I have been to recently).“
Besides companies with reputation in the open source field companies with more traditional business orientation
(focus commercial software) have been attending this conference (like Safe Software, Leica, Autodesk)
looking for ways for co-operation between Open Source and commercial products.
FOSS4G 2008 will be September 29 to October 3, 2008 in Cape Town, South Africa.
